Baby-Proofing At It's Best?

Ryan's gift for problem solving struck again! We were sorting laundry this evening, nothing new really we've always worekd on it together. But it used to be I would have it all sorted and folded before hand. :0P These days though any "big" job seems to require two people...One to do the job at hand. And the other to keep Riley from pulling all the books off the shelves, or all the clothes out of the drawers. Or from climbing some thing she shouldn't, or crawling off of some thing dangerous. Needless to say our bedroom isn't nearly babyproofed enough (yet)! :0)Ryan soon got frustrated with how quickly Riley was grabbing and finding "off limit" things and he quickly came up with a solution!

Note all the "baby approved" (minus the plastic bag agh!) things on the floor in the background :0P

She looks like her Daddy here!

The quailty isn't the best, as we took them with our cell phones, but you get the idea. :0P

These days have been very busy for us... Riley is purpetual motion, never ending energy, and it feels like I'm always a step behind it :0).

I have been trying to get us out of the house as much as possible to accomidate her growing curiosity...And stay sane myself! It's much easier to walk around with her in a sling and let her touch "mommie approved" things (we like fabric stores there are lots of fun things to touch and feel)...Then to stay at home and spend her every waking moment chasing her out of one thing or another!

We've rigged up a sort of over grown play pen using the ottomans and furniture in the living room. I've put a babygate under the TV table so she can't pull all the movies and books out. I've surrounded hard or "too interesting" areas of her "corral" with over sized pillows. And for the most part I don't worry for her safety. I just am constantly re-adjusting pillows, and redirecting Miss Riley, and redirecting and redirecting...That sense of curiousity is stronger than I ever imagined! :0)

On the days we don't go out for long she usually ends up getting bored and either tries to escape several times or I just get tired of trying to entertain her with her toys and open up the gates and let her explore...and chase, chase, chase!

Life is never dull. Here are some pics from the past week or so. :0)

Passed out after an afternoon snack.

One of her favorite places to be...Daddy's shoulders! Ryan has taken to walking her around like that in the evenings as she tends to get a bit fussy at times. He's such an amazing Daddy.

Now that the evenings are getting nicer (as in COOLER) we've been taking walks in the evening to get out of the house and enjoy the early Autumn evenings... Ryan's co-worker lives about half a mile away and we swung by their place to say hello one evening.
They were out playing in the yard with their 2 year old twin girls. Riley was really intersted in them (she tends to be quiet at first but that night she was talking up a storm!). They loved meeting "the baby" and every one was happy as long as there was a fence between them. Little ones are funny! :0)
Oh and talking, my goodness is she talking these days! It's amazing how things just seem to click, and then it's hard to remember there was a time where there wasn't a constant stream of "babababagagawawa dadaddadadada ma ma". At times I wish it wasn't so cute.
This morning at 5:30 I woke up to a tearful "Maama! Maaama!!!"...Though at the same time it's probalby the best sound in the world to wake up to.
This afternoon she surprised Nana (my Mom) with a pitiful "ana!!" when my Mom left the room...She doesn't like when any of her adoring fans leave the room. It doesn't matter if Daddy or Mommy or Nana are hanging out with her still....If her favorite of the moment leaves she starts to cry and call for them. Whether that means they are "ba ba" or "plllllb...whiiiine" her desire is clear.
Yes, we're obviously in love.
